The year 2021 brings a variety of actions which shall put the railway transport in the center of attention on the entire continent, thus marking the European Year of Rail<\/strong>. The European Commission\u2019s initiative shall highlight the benefits of the railway as a durable, smart and safe mode of transport. The railway transport is beneficial for both the tourists and the commuters, but for the undertakings and goods carriers which can choose the railway to transport their goods throughout Europe, as well.<\/p>\n

Railways connect Europe<\/strong>. In the EU, the railway transport is responsible for less than 0.5% of the greenhouse gas emissions resulted from the transport activity. This makes it one of the most durable modes of transport both for passenger and goods. Among other benefits, railway transport is safe and connects people and undertakings throughout Europe, through the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).<\/p>\n

The European Year of Rail creates an impulse which contributes to an increase in the railway share of the passenger and goods transport. This shall significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the pollution from the transport activity in the EU, greatly contributing to the EU efforts as part of the European Green Deal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

2021 is the year in which the entire European Union applies the norms agreed in the Fourth Railway Package. It is the year in which we celebrate several important events related to the railway transport in Europe, as follows: the 20th anniversary of the first railway package, the 175th anniversary of the first railway connection between 2 future EU capitals (Paris and Brussels), as well as 40 years of TGV and 30 years of ICE. In Romania, we celebrate 167 years from the first railway put into service on Romanian territory, 141 years since the foundation of CFR and 108 years since the first electrified railway in Romania and Eastern Europe was put into service (The Green Arrow, between Arad, Ghioroc and \u015eiria).<\/p>\n
