The National Passenger Railway Transport Company “CFR Călători” – S.A. was established by Government Decision no. 584/1998 on the establishment of the National Passenger Railway Transport Company “CFR Călători” – S.A. by reorganizing the National Romanian Railways Company.
CFR Călători, the national passenger railway operator, carries out its activity in accordance with the provisions of the Public Service Contracts, concluded with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure through the Railway Reform Authority (ARF), in order to fulfill the public service obligation established to ensure mobility at national level.
The purpose of CFR Călători is to provide public passenger railway transport to ensure mobility and satisfy the national public interest and the social and defense needs of the country.
In order to fulfill the mission assigned by law, SNTFC “CFR Călători” S.A. has, mainly, as its object of activity:
- Carrying out public passenger rail transport at national and international level
- Organizing and ensuring the exploitation of sleeping cars, berths, bar and restaurant, in domestic and international traffic;
- Managing the programming, operation and dispatching activities of passenger trains; issuing and managing travel tickets; relations with the public and ensuring comfort and safety conditions in passenger transport
- Other activities related or adjacent to public passenger rail transport, such as: industrial production, consultancy, domestic and international tourism, service provision, transport based on technologies other than railway, advertising, promotion, publishing, printing and broadcasting, rental of means of transport, commercial exploitation of own assets, trade, foreign exchange operations, any other services performed on the basis of contracts or conventions on behalf of third parties, directly or indirectly related to the activity of SNTFC “CFR Călători” S.A.
